July 3, 2022: I co-wrote a critical/literary essay with my brilliant friends and colleagues, Amrita Mishra and Chienyn Chi, and it has just been published in the San Antonio Review! The essay, “The Patronus Paradox: Dispelling the Dementors of Grad School,” creatively explores the mental and institutional struggles grad students face through a surprising close-reading of a scene from Harry Potter. July 1, 2022: My short story, “How I Broke My First World Record on the Chariot of Alexander the Great,” was just published in AQUILA Magazine‘s July/August 2022 issue, with illustrations by Isabel Otten. June 14, 2022: I had a new short story accepted for publication in SPIDER Magazine!

January 24, 2022: My novel, Echo of Light, won the 2022 Sydney Taylor Manuscript Award! The award, granted annually by the Association of Jewish Libraries, recognizes the best unpublished novel manuscript of Jewish children’s literature. The announcement is posted here.

May 1, 2021: I was honored with the Meredith Davis Volunteer of the Year Award from the Austin chapter of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI)! The award was presented to me for my work over the past year as the chapter news volunteer. I highlight the professional successes of chapter members in short blog posts on the chapter website and try to elevate these posts from simple news items to spaces for successful writers and illustrators to share more personal stories and useful advice with the community.

June 18, 2020: My short story, “The Midnight Owl of Gumbucket Hill,” won the middle-grade category of the 2020 Katherine Paterson Prize for Young Adult and Children’s Writing!  It has been published online in Hunger Mountain and can be read here.

April 16, 2020: My young-adult short story, “The Otchka,” published last year in print in Hunger Mountain, just became available online.

Feb. 13, 2020: Two of my upper middle-grade manuscripts, Reef and Stargap, were shortlisted for the 2019 Bath Children’s Novel Award! Although neither ended up winning the prize, they made it to the top 5 out of almost 1000 blind-read submissions. The shortlist was chosen by a jury of kids and teenagers!

Feb. 4, 2020: My short story, “A Forest Full of Stars,” won the 2019 SCBWI Magazine Merit Award for Fiction!  Thanks also to Austin SCBWI for sharing this news on their website.
